A research team from the University of New South Wales along with the University of Melbourne affirmed that people did not shed fat just because they smoked.
They experimented on mice for seven weeks. They exposed them to the smoke from four cigarettes every day for six days a week and the other half smoke free.
Mice kept in smoke ate 23% less food but there was no change in their fat levels.
People who thought they were burning fat by smoking were actually losing muscle. It made them think as if they were losing weight when there still storing fat.
