People smoke because they expect pleasure out of it. They want to relax and take it easy. But latest research has proved otherwise. Smoking does not make you happy. Dr. Lain Lang of Peninsula Medical School in the South-West of England observed the link between smoking and psychological well-being. He and his colleagues hold the view that smokers average levels of pleasure was lower as compared to non-smokers. Smokers also were less satisfied with life. Focus was on smoking being a pleasurable activity.
Is Smoking a Pleasurable Activity?
The research findings also indicated that smoking did not make people in the lower-socio economic group very happy. The situation was the same in the general population as well. The pleasure they get is due to addiction. Overall, their quality of life is poor. Most people smoke with the view of seeking pleasure from it, but actually fail to do so, according Dr. Lang. Quitting smoking is a better option, rather than to continue it. Overall well- being improves if one gives up smoking.
