Stomach cancer can be caused by moist snuff, smokeless tobacco, also known as “snus” in Scandinavia. This was revealed in a study that appeared in the International Journal of Cancer. Dr. Kazem Zendehdel, belonging to the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm and colleagues studied the occurrence of stomach cancer among male Swedish construction workers.
The study highlights the fact that tobacco smoking can cause stomach cancer. The use of “snus” was safer, but it can also cause stomach cancer. Smokeless tobacco cannot be considered to be safe. They are also cancer- risk. Researchers at University of Minnesota Cancer Center state that smokeless tobacco users were at a greater risk of being exposed to carcinogenic molecules as compared to cigarette smokers.
