Bisexual girls or teenage lesbians are likely to be regular smokers as compared to ordinary girls of their age. They are the worst affected people, according to US study.
In a study conducted, it was observed that 40% of teenage bisexuals or lesbians between the ages 12 and 17 smoked on a weekly basis, as compared to 6 % heterosexuals. Overall 16,000 teenagers were observed. These high rates were not observed in boys though.
Factors Causing Lesbians to Smoke More
Most of these lesbian smokers start smoking at an early age, according to Amanda Sandford of Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), U.K. A similar situation also perhaps occurs in the gay community. Most of the teenage girls tend to smoke alone, as compared to boys who smoke in a social milieu. This could be so as lesbian girls feel the peer pressure and isolation experienced due to their sexual orientation.
