Heavy Pot Smoking Causes Schizophrenia

Pot smoking largely known as smoking marijuana is one of the common smoking practices across the globe. A new study has showed links between the heavy pot smoking and psychosis.

The Study

The study was conducted at Institute of Neurosciences at “University of Granada” located in Spain. 92 patients among the age group of 18 to 65 were taken. These people had suffered from the first occurance of psychotic illness and among them more than 50% is said to have been smoking marijuana daily or nearly everyday.66% had no signs of psychosis before hand. The neurological development leading to psychosis had started after smoking marijuana.

History Of The Volunteers

There were people who had no hereditary influence of psychosis; they had been keeping well and academically sound. They had perfect command over muscle coordination. Socially they had a good circle of friends and were no where isolated from the society. They were happy in their personal life. The remaining 43% people had abnormal neurological influence or trouble in their academic, personal or social life.

The Findings

The findings show that people without any influence of psychosis in their life but smoking pot (like cannabis) daily or so have the risk of psychosis. While the people who already have an influence of neurological disorders in their life and smoking marijuana daily have even higher level of risk.
